Revit Object Visibility Hierarchy

There are a number of ways to control an object’s visibility.  SO many that at times it can be confusing and somewhat overwhelming trying to figure out why objects are or aren’t displaying they way you’d like them, or the way you’d expect them to display.  While it may not always be clear who “wins” in this battle of object visibility overrides, hopefully this post will help shed some light on things.  Below is a list of the most common ways of controlling an object’s visibility and their hierarchy with 1 being the lowest.

  1. PROJECT OBJECT STYLES
  2. VISIBILITY GRAPHIC OVERRIDES
  3. PHASING GRAPHIC OVERRIDES
  4. VIEW FILTERS
  5. OVERRIDE GRAPHICS (BY ELEMENT)
